There is always something beneath the surface driving a person.
Gun violence is WAY up in American cities not because suddenly we have a huge influx of assholes in America. Hopelessness drives mental illness which drives drug sales and use which drives murder.

If we don't fix the source of the problem we will forever just be treating symptoms.
